post # 4 Semiotics: Print, TV & Outdoor Ad's

Print Ad: Coca Cola open happiness

Denotation:

  • Red cola cola bottle on the right side
  • "Open happiness" next to the red bottle
  • Coca cola caps in 4 sizes on the left size
Connotation:
  • The coca cola bottle on the right is red with the logo on it so it attracts the views eye
  • all the different sizes caps spread on the left side express the idea of happiness 
  • the word "open happiness" in the middle is straight to the point 
TV ad: Apple- iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus

Denotation:
  • White Background 
  • Gold iPhone 6 holding with the left hand on the left side
  • Black iPhone 6 plus holding with the right hand not the right hand
  • simple background music
  • Shows different functions within the phone 
  • Comparison between iPhone 6 and plus for the video 
  • "Bigger than bigger"
  • "iPhone 6"in the middle and "coming soon content from iTunes on the bottom 
  • Apple logo at the end 
Connotation:
  • For most of the Apple advertisement, they like to use white background, so the white background use here represent apple
  • they have both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus showing at the same time, so people can see their differences 
  • when showing the different functions, it give people a general view of how it will work when they purchase the product 
  • By showing the bigger than bigger and the logo at they end it can emphasis people the simplicity behind apple products
Outdoor ad: McDonald's 
Denotation:
  • 2 bus station booth 
  • both booth with McDonald's logo with a red background
  • the booth on the left shows 200 m with an right arrow 
  • the booth on the right shows 197 m with an right arrow 
Connotation:
  • red background with yellow m McDonald's logo represent McDonald
  • the 200 m and 197 m show the distance to McDonald
  • the right arrow shows that they need to turn to the right side for the McDonald
