Post #11 Consumer Behavior: Definitions

According to the marketing teacher.com, Consumer behavior is the study of consumers and the process they use to chose, use (consume), and dispose of products and services. It also incorporates many ideas from psychology, biology, and chemistry.

The list of consumer behavior should be :

  • provide value and customer satisfaction
  • effectively target customers
  • enhance the value of the company
  • improve products and services
  • creates a competitive advantage
  • understand how customers view their products versus their competitor' products
  • expand the knowledge base in the field of marketing
  • apply marketing strategies toward a positive affect on society

The example I am using here is the "Clairol's Touch of Yogurt Shampoo". The consumer behavior in light of this product failed because this product is not attractive to consumers. People don't like the idea behind washing hair the yogurt. On the website it said that people who bought this product mistakenly ate it and got very illdd afterward. In my point of view, I wouldn't buy this product either because I don't like the way how they package this shampoo. I don't think is a good idea to put a how pink typography next to a green graphic. The color of the product itself doesn't look good either. Maybe if they redesign the bottle it will be better.

Post # 8 Rose Petal Cottage

In the Hasbro's Rose Petal Cottage commercial, it is mainly talked about how the two little girls does house chores using the toy. Such as bake cupcakes, clean dishes, and taking care of the baby. It even says in the background music that it is their dream to take care of the house. Also the colors used in this commercial are very bright and also considers girls' colors such as pink, purple , and yellow. This commercial also represent that woman should do all this chores at home, and they try to let the young girls practice at a younger age too.

What I think it could help this commercial is that they could include a boy in the commercial as well, they can do thing together, such as bake the cupcake together. And for the background music, a boy and a girl can also sing together. And for the background colors, they can use some neutral colors such a green. And even more, they can even make this commercial out side the house, such as in the back yard or at a park playing together.

"I don't know what it is about food your mother makes for you, especially when it's something that anyone can make - pancakes, meat loaf, tuna salad - but it carries a certain taste of memory” by Mitch Albom. Like what Mitch said, in the Chinese culture, woman or mom is the one who do everything at home such as cooking, taking care of the kids, and do laundry. I think it might still happens in the American culture as well. Although my dad cooks sometimes at home, but he will never do laundry at home. I think this is a idea spread all over the Chinese culture thousands of year ago, that the woman should take care of the house. I think is even worse nowadays because woman does double job now, because they have to go to work and when they go home they need to cook, take care of the kids and do all the house chores. like what it said on the ad "tough detergent for tough moms" It is indeed that moms are tough on the inside and outside. But on the other hand I still  think it would be better if husbands and wives should divided the job in the house equally instead.

post # 6 "Listen to your heart" - racial and gender diversity

1. The movie I chose is called "Listen to your heart". In this movie it does reflect racial and gender diversity because in this movie the main character are a deaf girl and a caucasian boy and he has a black guy friend. This show a big variety of racial and gender diversity. In the movie the caucasian boy and the black boy worked together at a restaurant and they are best friends. At the end the caucasian guy had cancer and he told the black boy that they are brothers. and because the movie was cast in New York, there are people from other places too in this movie.
This kind of diversity is important in media because when they make a movie like that, there will be no gap between people. It will concoct every culture and every race together as a whole. They will bring peace and love to the world. And there not be complaints also. It will be fair for everybody and create equality.

2. I don't think there is really social or gender stereotypes present in the movie but there is a problem because the caucasian works at the restaurant and is not rich, so the main actress' mom doesn't want them to be together. There were also problem when the deaf girl went to school, her classmate looked down on her because she can't hear. The element that prevent being stereotypical is that they made the black guy and the white guy be best friends. And the white guy loves music but he is dating a deaf girl. In this case, there is no barrier between different relationships. On the other hand, it might be stereotyped by not putting the black guys photo on the poster, instead everyone who are on the poster is white.

First of all, I don't think racially stereotype for advertising purposes is ever right, because we should treat everyone to be equal. Especial commercials are everywhere in the world. and nowadays people can get access to the internet everywhere at home , or on phones, iPad, laptops. And it will make impact for people's mind. Therefore I believe is never right to racially stereotype for any advertising purposes. The world need peace and love not racially stereotype.

I don't think racism in advertising a thing of the past because there are still some ad shows racism. I have include a photo that show the racism because in the ad, the "white" man is standing and the rest of the "black" man are bowing down to him.

Lastly, I do think advertisers have ethical responsibilities because like what I said advertising are everywhere. when we want to show some thing on the internet it is the advertisers's responsibility to not be racism. They should create equality in the advertisement for everyone who lives on the planet.
